From Swimming Pool to Wellness Oasis
The 5,500-square-meter spa area at the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa has continuously been modernized and expanded over the years. But what is the story behind this successful concept?
From Swimming Hall to Modern Spa Experience
As early as the 1950s, an indoor swimming pool was added to provide guests with more opportunities to relax. In the 1970s, a tennis hall was built to further enhance the hotel’s recreational offerings. A major milestone was reached in 1991 with the opening of the 5,500-square-foot wellness area offering state-of-the-art fitness and relaxation facilities.
To meet the evolving expectations of its guests, the spa was extensively renovated and expanded in 2003. This transformation was reflected in the architecture, with a distinct shift in design from the 1990s to the 2000s.
A Setback as a Chance for Renewal
In 2010, a fire in the sauna area caused significant damage and necessitated another complete renovation. This was carried out in 2011, incorporating the latest technical standards and a nature-inspired design concept. On June 3, 2012, the newly designed sauna area was officially reopened, with warm wood elements and a stylish “Candle Lounge”.
Today, Spa Nescens still covers 5,500 square meters and offers a wide range of high-end wellness, fitness and relaxation services. Ongoing investment in the spa underscores the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa’s commitment to providing guests with a luxurious and modern haven of well-being.
