160 years Victoria-Jungfrau

1865 – exactly 160 years ago – marked the beginning of the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa’s success story through an ambitious businessman named Eduard Ruchti. He purchased the then Pension Victoria and, a few years later, acquired the adjacent property of the Hotel Jungfrau. At the same time, amid the Belle Époque, the Victoria-Jungfrau Joint Stock Company was established. Since then, numerous building sections have been added, expanded, renovated, and restored, culminating in the multifaceted elegance of today’s Grand Hotel.

The timeless focal point remains the majestic Jungfrau massif – a fact well understood by the hotel’s earliest managers. As a result, our archives contain several “Photoshop gems” from the 19th century, where the Jungfrau magically shifts to another direction.

We are proud to look back on a rich and eventful history: over the past 160 years, the Victoria-Jungfrau has served as a health retreat, seasonal guesthouse, general staff headquarters, and ultimately a luxury resort. We remain inspired by the countless guests who have been captivated by the unique charm of this establishment and the deep-rooted Swiss hospitality it embodies. And we look forward to reflecting in a few decades on the history being written at this very moment.
